As a producer for this album, as well as the main mixer on this project, I am proud of this review and it just goes to show that hard work pays off sometimes.

Nico The Beast's album, The Beast Within, opens with a question: "Are you a talker or a doer?" Fortunately for fans of non-watered down hip hop/rap music, Nico's an aggressive "doer." In fact, the entire offering plays out like the journal of a hard-nose man who's lived it, and more poignantly, lived thru it.

On the track, "You Mean Everything" (beat by Rhythm J), an incredibly emotional and painful track, Nico uses a hushed delivery (something that works here, but shouldn't be repeated) to drop a wrenching recounting of the loss of his infant song. And Nico's vocals are made whole by Rhythm J's haunting instrumental, which taps the essence of the doo wop era, with searing touch and mastery. This song embodies musical artistry, and presents Nico in its finest moment. It also gives notice that the rest of the album is worthy of a close listen.

RIZ has been busy these days. This Harlem native has been studio bound creating singles, for his upcoming mixtape to be released later this year. Pretty soon he'll be introducing joints with The Runners and French Montana. RIZ was discovered by Zach Katz, founder of Beluga Heights (Sean Kingston), Will Selby (Sha Stimuli), and David da Jeweler. Both 50 Cent and Sha Money XL were public cosigners for RIZ, with Sha serving as the executive producer for his first project. This street smash Sky High, Sky Fly was produced by Deejay Pain 1 from Wisconsin. Most have recognized Pain for his production credits for Young Jeezy, Stat Quo, Webstar, Yo Gotti, Rich Boy, and Chamillionaire. Altered Beast: Rise From Your Grave

For the first time since 2005, Nico the Beast slowed the assembly line of punishing, technically flawless lines released on a consistent basis to his growing fanbase. A near fatal car crash in April of 2009, which resulted in the loss of a dear friend, put Nico in a temporary holding pattern. Nonetheless, five days after the accident and not even two days home from the hospital, he was back on stage with one good leg supporting him, wowing the Philadelphia hip hop community through sheer will.

The message was clear: not even a brief visit with death would stop him from his passion.

Barely a month after the accident, he was performing in Miami with The Rap Pack and flew home just in time to witness the birth of his third child and first son Domenic Zarrella Jr. Though the physical and psychological toll of the trauma hadn’t worn off from the crash, a new child appeared to bring light to a rebuilding man.

Sadly, Domenic Zarrella Jr. passed away without warning, not even 8 weeks old, from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). We all stopped everything. Suddenly, music meant nothing. It still has been hard to stay motivated because all our hearts and prayers are with the entire Zarrella family almost five months later.

But the Beast survives and endures. Though he’s been relatively quiet to the public, he has been laboring away in the studio as always, for therapeutic purposes, sure, but also to prove something: he is never satisfied. Even recently, before Christmas, another close friend of his passed away prematurely from a rare heart disease (RIP Jamal Thomas). Death keeps calling, but Nico keeps walking. He has no other choice but to shine for himself, his family, and his close friends who have held him down for years.

These few tracks give you an idea of what happened recently, and is what happening next to South Philly’s finest rhymer - all records mixed by Rhythm J

Never Stop (prod by Korn Swagger) : A call to arms, a future showstopper, dare we say “anthem” produced by iStandard Producer finalist Korn Swagger of North Philadelphia.

Make Believe ft. Vixion (prod by Vanderslice) : An introspective converstaion with God on the past year, the aftermath of tragedy still in his sights, with an accent of Vixion on the hook. Produced by industry vet Vanderslice.

Wake The Beast (prod by Vanderslice) : Right for the jugular. No bones about it — just vicious “come see me” ish. Don’t wake a sleeping giant, nor a beast.

Golden ft. Vixion (prod by Stupid Genius) : An uptempo potential crossover song warning current rappers to stay honest rather than exaggerate to get on. Produced by iStandard Producer vet Stupid Genius of Miami, who also handled “It’s Your Choice” from No Beast So Fierce.

Cast for Beatles' 'Yellow Submarine' remake reported to be set

As a movie I grow up watching when I was 5 years old... innocently thinking this was a fun cartoon for little kids with some fun songs and colors - turned out to be the ultimate LSD and/ or Acid trip for anyone in that era.

Via LA Times:

Already remade into video game characters, the Beatles are now one step closer to getting the modern 3-D treatment. Director Robert Zemeckis has reportedly zeroed in on the cast for his computer animated take on the 1968 film "Yellow Submarine."

The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit has the details, revealing that Dean Lennox Kelly, a Brit who has appeared in a string of U.K. television programs, has been tabbed for John Lennon. Perhaps the biggest name to audiences on these shores with be "The Princess Bride's" Cary Elwes, who is targeted for George Harrison. Peter Serafinowicz, most recently in "Couples Retreat," is in line to portray Paul McCartney, and Adam Campbell is set for Ringo Starr.

Kit has more details on his blog, including side-by-side pictures of the new cast with their Beatles counterparts. Of the music in the film, he writes:

The Beatles tribute band the Fab Four will be motion-captured as the ensemble for the musical performance sequences though -- since actual Beatles music will be utilized (licensed from Sony/ATV and EMI-Capitol Records) -- they won't actually be performing the 16 songs used in the movie.

Those angling for a more real-life glimpse of a Beatle will want to find a way to worm their way into the Grammy Museum on Jan. 19, where Ringo will appear for an interview and brief performance. The event is sold out, and resale tickets on Craigslist are currently in the $140 range.

My goal with this project is to connect all the work I have done up until this point, so that those who are unfamiliar can get acquainted with my sound. For those of you who are familiar, I think you will really enjoy these Instrumentals. I didn't just mute the vocals, in some cases i completely remixed and rearranged the beats to give the listener a more dynamic experience.

Playground is one of my favorites, me and Cole recorded that during the early stages of "The Warm Up" but it didn't fit in with the final track listing. It's a great song though, and I'm happy to finally let you all hear it!

Holy Omen was featured on Omen's "Delayed" mixtape sampler, but it's my first real appearance on the mic, so I wanted to share it on this project as well. Expect a lot more of this in the future, and on my next mixtape (currently in progress) entitled "Elite That's Me".

I also decided to finally release The Original Version of Shootouts. Now you can hear for your self how I removed the sample and completely reworked the beat!

Ok, so as one with an Italian heritage from the tristate area I feel like I have a legitimate obligation to say something about the POS Jersey Shore show on MTV. Now that the public has their full attention of this show given the "punch heard 'round the world"... which makes that "bitch slap" from The Real World back in the 90s look like Sesame Street. First off, go figure it's a Viacom reality show to begin with... I would have said it was either them of Fox who would have aired this. It's unfortunate I have to call these pieces of garbage with Dragon Ball Z haircuts one of my own nationality.

If anyone has seen the show - there's a toolbox on there that refers to his abs as "The Situation".... I can't speak for the Italians... I really can't...

Unfortunately, there's an extremist group within every race/nationality - and they bring out the bad in all of us - let us all rise above the human labels.

The Midnight Specialists consist of MC extraordinaire, the Master, and beat-smith taeOne. Their debut album, The All Nighter, is a brooding and cautionary tale of modern urban life in New York City.
